Why I love what I do

I had a huge Ah-Ha moment today – I get paid to live a healthy lifestyle. I get paid to get my body in the best shape it can be and to help others do the same. So every time I am at the beach playing volleyball, or going for a run, I am living the life I am getting paid to promote. Sheer Brilliance. Really, why wouldn’t everyone want to do this?

For things to change, you have to change

One of my favorite Jim Rohn quotes – “For things to change, you have to change. For things to get better, you have to get better.” Most people who have hit rock bottom and understand they need to do things differently to expect a different outcome can relate to this quote. It’s what made me consider network marketing when I had been a naysayer for years. It was time to make a financial change. Today not only am I a successful network marketer, helping people build a dream life, but I am an ambassador to this profession, educating people on the true value of building a network marketing business.

You can change your whole future….slowly, steadily, and deliberately…by doing something that you’ve been doing all of your life without realizing it – making referrals.

The Duplication Formula for Success in Network Marketing

People often ask me what is the true formula for success in network marketing. It is really quite simple actually and it is all about duplication. The first thing I teach new team members is you can not enroll your way to the top, you have to duplicate your way. That is why it is so critical that your company has a simple, duplicatable system to follow so that even a brand new person just getting started in their work at home business can achieve success. The secret to creating true duplication and wealth in our business is this:

Lead a large group of people—to consistently do a few simple actions—over a sustained period of time.

You’ll notice there are three sections that make up the formula. First is the large group of people. You need enough critical mass to get traction and for duplication to take off.

The second element is to have those people perform only a few actions and to keep those actions simple. One of the biggest mistakes newcomers make is to try and quantify everything, and in doing so they add too much complexity. For true duplication we need to focus on actions simple enough that everyone in the large group can replicate.

And finally, you need this to happen over a sustained period of time. I believe in most MLM companies building a solid network is a two- to four-year plan. One of my greatest mentors always says it takes three to five years to create a full time income in this industry. Fortunately, in my current opportunity, we are on a much shorter curve due to our super simple system, outstanding training and support, and extremely mainstream offering.

So while you can earn your initial investment back quickly, even in your first month like I did, it doesn’t always happen in a month or two or even six. We need people to consistently take the actions for a sustained period of time. This is how wealth is created in MLM.

It doesn’t happen overnight, but if you follow the formula – it does happen!

What it takes to build real residual income with network marketing

Network marketing is so often misunderstood. Most people have a proconceived notion of what it is. Residual income is the real value, economically speaking, that Network Marketing has to offer. You can earn $50,000 a month selling real estate, or doing mail order, or on the Internet. But how long will it last if you are not there “burning and churning” every day, every week and every month? Where else can you invest three to four years of your part-time life and create something that – built right, and in the right company – could and should last a lifetime? Where else can you invest less than $5,000 and be earning $5,000 a month forever? That little $60,000-a-year income has an asset value of $2 million!

If investors really understood our return on investment and knew the secret to “buying” residual Network Marketing income, it would instantly become the most popular investment of all time. The thing is, you can’t buy it. You have to build it. Here is what you and I and every other Network Marketing field leader has to invest in order to build their very own:

All of your heart
All of your soul
All of your courage
All of your persistence
All of your enthusiasm
All of your leadership
All of your belief and faith
All of your business passion
All of your credibility
All of your contacts
Most of your free time
Some of your money

And if you are investing all this, and creating an income to last a lifetime, I would ask, wouldn’t you want to be sure you are joining the right team? #justsayin

Lessons Learned from a Kid with No Limits

This is a story about belief. This is a story about overcoming self doubt and having an “I can do it” attitude. This is a story about perseverance, commitment and confidence. But mostly this is a story about a mom inspired by her 9 year old daughter to take on a challenge.

Almost 10 years ago my oldest daughter Leila was born with a severe hearing impairment. What this means is, without the use of hearing aids, she is essentially deaf. Fear, worry, anxiety are just a few of the emotions I felt when I was first made aware of her disability. Fortunately, Leila never got the memo that her mother was worried for her future. She had a plan. She knew it was all going to turn out OK. She knew she would be able to do whatever any typically developing kid was able to do and better. Her determination and her unstoppable spirit are what helped guide me to parent her down the path of opportunity and achievement, instead of a path of self doubt and limiting beliefs.

We were told there was a possibility she wouldn’t speak well because of the level of her hearing loss. Leila apparently never got that memo. Her deafness is barely detectible in her speech. She also never got the memo that she might not attend mainstream school. She’s a straight A student in her public school class. As a matter of fact, this year she was accepted into the gifted and talented educational program, having scored in the top 95% of kids tested nation wide. Last season, Leila’s soccer coach nicknamed her the “bulldog” because of her fearless defensive skills. Apparently she never got the memo that having a disability meant she couldn’t be a superstar athlete. Oh, and least I forget, she never got the memo that she couldn’t stand up on stage at the Kirk Douglas Theater in Los Angeles to perform in the lead of role of a play in front of hundreds of people. She does this every summer with unabashed self-confidence. Where does Leila get this I can do anything spirit? Unfortunately not from her mom. But inspired by my sassy little 9 year old, I am about to change all that.

But first, let me go back a few years to give you some background on a program that has nurtured my confident little kid. For the past few years, Leila has had the privilege of participating in the No Limits Theater Program. No Limits is a non-profit whose mission is to enhance the confidence and self-esteem of kids with hearing impairment through the theatrical arts. When you walk in to their office, you are greeted by three signs which read as follows:

Confidence: I CAN DO IT
Perseverance: I WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN
Commitment: I WILL DO IT

Every day after they end their activities, the kids stand in a circle holding hands taking turns shouting out “I can do it”. You see, the human spirit, like a campfire, needs to be constantly rekindled. Stating positive affirmations like this have been proven to help the mind adopt these thoughts as truth. The first time I witnessed the kids doing this exercise, it brought me to tears and inspired me to complete training for a half marathon at a time when I was about ready to give up. I blogged about it back then in this post. This time, I have been inspired to take on my own personal challenge of overcoming self doubt and limiting beliefs. Besides embarking on a new business/personal development challenge for myself, I am going to be taking on a new physical goal with my next 90 day challenge. In my next 90 day challenge I am going to train to participate in an amateur beach volleyball tournament. I have been playing recreational beach volleyball for years. I love it and look forward to it every week and I am a huge fan of the sport. Most professional beach volleyball players are tall, lean and ripped and they compete in bikinis. I am 5″4, weigh over 160 lbs. and wear a size D bra. To say that I am not built like a beach volleyball player would be an understatement. But I know that I am a good player, I am athletic, and I am no longer going to allow my limiting beliefs to keep me from achieving whatever I set my mind to. I am going to commit with confidence and persevere no matter what. I am excited to be taking you all on this journey and share my progress with you. In the next 90 days, you are going to watch me rise to the top of my company’s comp plan, change the lives of hundreds of people, and compete in this tournament with the belief and confidence of the athlete that I am. Who wants to join me?

Revive Your New Year’s Resolutions

If you’re like millions of Americans, you woke up on January 1st and vowed to turn over a new leaf – run three miles a day, lose a pound a week, cut out sugar, save $200 a week, whatever. You actually imagined a better you and felt a sense of excitement to start your “new you” journey. But then, come late January or early February, 3 miles a day turned into 3 miles a week, you stopped being able to resist those M & M’s on your co-workers desk. In other words, you slipped back into your old habits.

Well guess what? I’m here to tell you the brutal honest truth. Summer is coming and it’s time to revive those resolutions. There was a reason you set those goals and if you dig deep and remember your “why”, you will be able to focus on the bigger goal in the face of your immediate desires. Willpower is a skill you can strengthen through visualization. Here are some tips that have helped me lose 16 pounds in the past 90 days:

1) Post photos on your fridge of yourself at your desired weight or a bathing suit you have your eye on. This will serve as a friendly reminder when temptation sets in.

2) Accept the busy stressed person you are and find a program that fits into your lifestyle. Weight Watchers works but all that point counting does NOT work for me. After I accepted that and started on a program that fits into my lifestyle, I was finally able to stick to the program for longer than 2 weeks.

3) Set small incremental goals and celebrate each milestone. 30 lbs. is a lot to bite off and can feel overwhelming. Start with a goal of 10 lbs. Reward yourself when you reach that goal and then set a new goal. The same is true of exercise. If you are not active but have vowed to get fit, start by building a 10-minute walk into your day and then try to build up each week.

4) Rethink your environment. When your surroundings stay the same, so do your ingrained habits. You can’t keep junk food in your house and expect your willpower to hold up every time. New habits take time to develop. Don’t expect drastic changes to take place in a week. You have to commit to being in it for the long haul.

5) Envision how you will achieve your goal. Visualization is one of the most powerful tools for achieving a goal and is even used by Olympic athletes. Picture yourself eating healthier foods, imagine yourself feeling healthier, how it will feel to be able to fit more comfortably into your jeans. Anticipate obstacles like feeling too tired to hit the gym and then imagine how you’ll overcome them.

Misty May is one of my favorite athletes and role models. She is also an Olympic Gold Medalist in my favorite sport – Beach Volleyball. Her body is strong and lean and curvy, not too thin.

The Fastest Way to Success in Network Marketing

The fastest way to achieve success in network marketing is to find a leader or a  mentor who is earning the level of income you want to achieve, and do what he/she is doing. You can not recruit your way to the top, you must duplicate your way to the top. There are so many great network marketing companies out there with fantastic products and great compensation plans, but without leadership and an easily duplicatable system that focuses on the newest person just getting started, you will be spinning your wheels trying to get people to move.

Success requires not only the right product or the right comp plan, but the right tools and partners. If we seek the right mentors in our business, they can help us achieve success. If you are not working with the right team, it may be time to re-evaluate your choices.

Here are some attributes of great mentors you want to look for when choosing a team to work with.

1) They show up when they say they are going to.

2) They believe in you.

3) They have a vision for you and have a roadmap to get you there.

4) They have good communications skills, are empathetic and genuine.  I would be wary of someone who throws around too much hype.

5) They will coach you on what you need to do, not necessarily what you want to do.
