Make your own playdough

How does the saying go –  Enjoy the journey not just the destination? That’s kind of how I feel about making our own homemade playdough. Making it is half the fun! Not only is making your own playdough a fun activity to do with the kids,it’s easier than you’d think, cheaper and less stinky than the store bought stuff. It won’t last as long because it’s not full of chemicals and preservatives, but that’s what makes it safer so it’s definitely worth it. Here’s the recipe we use:

1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
2 T cream of tartar
1 T vegetable oil
1 cup water
2 Tsp. food coloring

1) Mix all ingredients in a medium pot
2) Stir over medium heat for 3-5 minutes. It will look like a lumpy mess at first but then it turns into dough.
3) When the mixture is formed into a dough consistency turn off the heat and let it cool for a few minutes before allowing kids to play.
4) Store in a ziploc bag or airtight container in the fridge to prevent it from molding.

I think you will find the consistency and smell of this organic do-it-yourself playdough far more enjoyable than the store bought kind.
